Meet Mr England 2009 – Andreas Kattou
Mr England 2009 was Andreas Kattaou.
Andreas won Mr England in July 2009 at the Hilton London Metropole going on to represent England at Mr World in 2010. Unfortunately Andreas didn’t place in the top 15 at his years Mr World but thoroughly enjoyed the experience of meeting like-minded people from around the world representing their respective countries.
Andreas was able to meet some truely inspirational people during his reign and worked with the likes of Alicia Dixon, Ian Wright and his uncle Peter Andre as well as Boyz II Men, Beverly Knight and many more. Andreas has also been lucky to feature on such shows as Live at Studio 5 and The One show. He has appeared in many magazines such as more magazine and Closer. Andreas has also been featured in documentaries for his own campaign “Giving Blood”
“Entering the competition I didn’t know what to expect. I was a young lad that worked in a family run fish and chip shop. When they called my name I couldn’t believe it – but what an experience I had! During my time as Mr England I got to travel to some amazing places such as South Korea, Gibraltar and Italy. For me the best part of my time as Mr England was raising desperately needed funds for charity and the money I raised to give that little something to a little baby. I did the 3 peaks after losing my nephew at just 4 weeks old. We raised just over £18,000 in 2011 and we’re still raising money now in his honour. Being Mr England never really stops; it’s always a part of you in some way!”
Where is Andreas now?
These days Andreas is following his family routes and owns a fish and chip shop in Rugby called Fish Plus.
After hanging up his sash, Andreas settled down and is now married with one daughter that he thinks the world of.
Andreas is still making the most of life travelling with his family whenever he can to Cyprus which is where he originates from. Although Cyprus is a hot spot, Andreas is still enjoying travelling to different parts of the world and learning from other cultures. His favourite destination so far has been New Zealand.
Mr World may be a fair few years ago for Andreas but he stays active with skydiving and assault courses having completed the Spartan Race in 2017. Andreas is still a believer that life is all about making the most of it – being positive and happy especially around those that you love because it rubs off on them.
